Sony PS3 Adds Facebook to PlayTV

Gamers in the UK can now keep their Walls up to date with Task Force 141’s latest exploits, as the PlayStation 3’s PlayTV add-on gets Facebook.

PlayTV is an add-on unit for the PS3 released in 2008 that acts as an HDTV receiver and digital video recorder.

Sony announced the “major” update in its PlayStation Blog where the company was cagey about giving too many new features away, but confirmed the new social networking aspect.

“Other great enhancements to PlayTV and brand new features will also be included in the update,” the post said.

Testing of PlayTV’s new features has already begun, with the final updates due to be released later this year.

Comments on the blog have highlighted what gamers really want from this upgrade, namely a faster loading time for PlayTV and included Freeview high-definition.

“Release a Freeview HD version in the UK and i’ll buy it the day it comes out. It’d be good to be able to access the web browser while watching TV,” one comment said.

The unit’s slow load time and lack of a series record option has been widely criticised since PlayTV’s release.

Sony has teasingly promised that when PlayTV’s new features have gone through the testing rigmarole, you’ll be the first to know on its blog.

Sony Cyber-Shot W350D Adds A Touch of Rhinestone

Cameras may keep on getting better on the inside, but their exteriors remain something on the staid side. Before this came along.

Hailed as a “model for women” the Sony DSC-W350D is an ultra-compact camera comes in either white with stars, or a blush shade of pink with a floral pattern.

If this isn’t feminine enough, each camera further has a splattering of rhinestones on the front.

The camera also shines on the inside, with a 14 megapixel imager and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom lens, making for some crystal clear shots from a crystal crusted camera.

You can keep tabs on your handiwork on a decently sized 2.7 inch TFT LCD screen.

The W350D also records in 720p high-definition, saving in MPEG-4, and will easily connect to your PC via USB 2.0 connectivity.

There is also a few handy shooting options including self portrait, smile shutter, face detection and sweep panorama settings.

If you end up having to attend back-to-back weddings, you can expand the camera’s memory through a SD/SDHC slot.

You can even get a matching “elegant pattern” embossed case to match, which beats black neoprene.

So far, both cameras are only available in Japan, priced around the £190 mark.

iPad Flash Dilemma: Flickr Joins the Bandwagon and Adds HTML 5 Player

The support for iPad video is spreading thick and fast, with news already that companies such as Brightcove are adding HTML 5 support to try and overcome the lack of flash support available on the Apple iPad.

Another company which has joined its support for the iPad is Flickr. The Flickr HTML 5 player will mean that iPad owners can explore Flickr photos and videos.

This is definitely an interesting move for Flickr as it shows that there is a market for iPad owners to explore Flickr photos and videos.

With Google Chrome integrating Flash, it would appear that everyone is joining the battle to solve the problem of flash.  Who will be next?
