FIRST LOOK: Rocawear Introduces Singer Alexis Jordan

Rocawear shot their Fall 2010 campaign today with Star Roc/Roc Nation’s new teenage sensation, Alexis Jordan.

The fresh-faced young artist follows a strong tradition of artists with Jay-Z’s seal of approval who star in his clothing brand’s campaigns, including Memphis Bleek to Tru Life to Jay himself.

Eighteen-year-old Alexis, whose stunning looks can be attributed to her rich cultural background (a mix of Puerto Rican, African-American, Native American and European), was discovered after her knockout performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” on the Simon Cowell–helmed TV show America’s Got Talent.

The appearance, plus her phenomenal YouTube presence, landed Alexis a meeting with award-winning writing/production team Stargate, who were at the time setting up their joint venture with Roc Nation. Stargate in turn introduced Alexis to Jay-Z, who instantly gave his personal blessing to the project.

“I want to be really positive, no cussing, none of that,” Alexis says of her music. “I’m a young artist and I want to be a role model. A lot of songs [on her upcoming debut album] are upbeat and some are ballads. There’s a little bit of that country vibe in it, and a little bit of that reggae vibe. My album has everything.”

Alexis Jordan’s self-titled debut album is set to drop this year; in the meantime, check out her impromptu version of her new song “Happiness.”

Panasonic Unveils World First Micro Four Thirds HD Camcorder

For any amateur film makers looking to turn pro, Panasonic’s latest Micro Four Thirds Camera may be just the equipment you need to get your creative juices flowing.

As a more compact camera optimised for high-def recording, Panasonic has said that the camera will “set a new benchmark for digital cinematography.”

The AG-AF100 camcorder uses Panasonic’s large Micro Four Thirds image sensor, which the company boasts will capture greater image depth and wider field of view in a compact casing.

The new offering incorporates a Panasonic micro 4/3-inch 16:9 MOS sensor, providing you with video recorded at 1080p at 30, 25 and 24 fps, 1080i at 60 and 50 fps; or 720p at 60, 50, 30, 25 or 24 fps.

Panasonic has included an interchangeable lens system, compatible with both film and still camera lenses, filters, and adapters.

To store your silver screen debut, you have the choice of using either SDHC or SDXC cards, and there are two slots included on the body of the camera to allow for smooth filming without having to stop and change cards over.

The AG-AF100 comes with a number of features to make you look pro, such as built-in ND filtering and reduced video aliasing, HD-SDI out, HDMI, a built-in stereo microphone and time code recording.

Pricing hasn’t been officially announced, but you should be able to pocket one by the end of the year for just under £4000, which sounds like it may rack up the credit card, but you will end up with a professional-grade camcorder, and three-year warranty.

Have you been impressed with the Micro Four-Thirds lens? Leave us a comment and let us know.

Is this the first home controlled solely by iPads and iPhones?

I said it a few days ago and I’ll say it again, the iPad is the future of home automation. I’m clearly not alone in this thinking, either. At least one installer has already embraced the iPad and rolled out what could be the first whole-house system controlled by two iPads and one iPhone. This includes everything from the security systems, HVAC, cameras, three media servers, a Russound audio system, to even the pool can be controlled via these devices.

The installer has seen the future and it includes lots of iPads and money. via CEPro,

“My plan is to sell many more automation systems,” he says. “The stumbling block for clients in the past hasn’t been the control system, it’s always been the cost of the user interface. With the iPad, this problem has been completely removed. This is a tremendous victory for the future of my business. I don’t have to sell expensive products that don’t multitask. And I get to charge each time I program an iPad or add one to the system.”

Apple Sells 450,000 iPads; 300,000 on First Day

In its first five days on the market Apple has sold 450,000 iPads in the US, shifting a massive 300,000 on the first day.

The figure is similar to the first iPhones sold in the US, which was estimated at 270,000. Although specific iPhone sales figures weren’t released at the time, the figure is estimated from Apple’s earnings reports.

“We’re making (iPads) as fast as we can,” Mr Jobs said at the recent iPhone OS 4.0 event in California.

“Evidently we can’t make enough of them yet so we are going to have to try harder,” Mr Jobs said.

He said that Apple was currently working hard to produce as many iPads as it can to meet demand, and early signs show that demand is high.

New iPad owners have also downloaded 3.5 million applications to their new device, with a huge demand particularly for eBooks.

“iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad,” Steve Jobs said.

In other impressive stats, Apple has further sold 50 million iPhones and 35 million iPod Touches, totalling a whopping 85.5 million multitouch devices running the iPhone OS and able to access the App Store.

The Apple App store currently has 3500 apps specifically designed for the iPad, out of the total 185,000 apps available.

The desire for Apple’s handheld devices has meant that Apple’s Safari web browser has a 64 per cent share of the mobile browser market, as it is bundled with the iPhone OS.

Are you gearing up to be one of the millions with a shiny new iPad? Leave us a comment and let us know.

Alienware M11x gallery and first impressions

We’ll have a full review of Alienware’s pint-sized gaming machine, but in case you guys haven’t seen enough pictures of it (or there just wasn’t enough bokeh in those other sites’ shots), I’ve put together a nice little gallery for you. I’m happy to take more pictures too if you want close-ups of this or that.

I literally just took it out of the package a few minutes ago, and I have to say my first impressions are very positive. They clearly knew what they wanted to do this this thing. The build feels very solid, the screen is bright, the lighting isn’t as over-the-top as I’ve seen on other Alienware models, and a quick Geekbench run gives it an 1889, which is significantly faster than some other slim-and-lights I’ve tested recently.

Please go ahead and comment if there’s anything you’re wondering about in particular, and I’ll try to answer those questions in the full review. In the meantime, enjoy these artistic shots of this very good-looking machine. I stacked it on a 15″ MacBook Pro there for size comparison — it’s very compact.
