Mobile Phone Simulators: A Quick Crash Course in Choosing the Right Mobile Phone

One of the things which I am pretty sure most people struggle with is choosing the right mobile mobile phone for them. A gadget that has become part of everyday life needs the same consideration when buying a car or even for some choosing your life partner! (Sad I know!) It’s a lot of money and if you get a monthly contract, you’re stuck with it for 18-24 months.

Do a search on Google and you are presented with a whole of host of information detailing reviews and offers on the latest gadgets. However, if you just haven’t got the time and patience to sift through all the reviews, then I came across some very useful “self learning” mobile simulators the other day.

Mobile phone simulators, are different to reviews as they offer friendly, online interactive tools to guide users through the features of a phone they are thinking of buying or already have and just simply need a quick crash course on. Now, there are a fair few mobile phone simulators out there so here’s a run down of my top 4 mobile phone simulators (you’ll have to read the end of the article to see which one I found most useful):

4. Orange’s Motorola Dext Simulator

The Motorola Dext simulator from Orange was my least favourite out of the four. Its design was a little all over the place unlike the others I had seen, I was a little confused as to where to start.  After reading the lengthy and boring blurb, I was able to then start the interactive navigation.

The interactive navigation can start from the search bar at the top of the page or the rather ambiguous menu bar hidden in the far left hand corner.  As you navigate from the menu bar and select a function you rather annoyingly have to click on ‘next’ to view the next set of controls to help with your navigation, which is a bit of a pointless exercise.

Although the interactive mobile phone simulators offers you the information required to guide you through the phones specifications, it is let down by its clunky design which takes a while getting used to.

3. Tesco Mobile’s iPhone Simulator

Tesco Mobile have created a mobile simulation for the very popular iPhone. I very much liked how you were instantly presented with a menu and knew exactly where to navigate to using the drop down menu on the left hand side.

Although, the Tesco Mobile simulator showcased a detailed log of the iPhone’s features and specification, I was constantly being distracted by the rather annoying moving hand used as the navigator.

I can understand that the simulation was trying to emulate the same look and feel you would expect in an Apple advertisement or product demonstration, but I would have much preferred if Tesco Mobile had stuck with a more simpler navigation pointer tool.

2. O2’s Sony Xperia X10 Simulator

Now when I mean keeping the navigation simple, I think O2’s Sony Ericsson Simulator has hit the nail on the head with it’s seamless interactive navigation pointer tool.

The simulation itself was technically very pleasing, however I am not too sure whether it went a little over the top with the technical features.  This meant that it left very little room to ensure that the user could easily find what they were looking for.

If you’re looking to be bombarded with a vast array of technical knowledge on the phone then this simulator is great but if you’re wanting a quick crash on the right mobile phone for you then let’s move onto my final and most desirable mobile phone simulator…

1. Vodafone’s HTC Legend Simulator

Now when I mean mobile phone simulators, I think all simulators should take a leaf out of this one.

This simulator was easy to navigate around and cleverly listed it menu based on how you would expect a user to navigate through.

Unlike the O2 simulator, this simulator definitely had the user in mind, offering a sub category detailing the phone’s main features for people who just want a quick snap shot as well as offering the option to look at the phone in more detail.
