BlackBerry OS 6.0 Screenshot and Features Leaked

BlackBerry’s latest OS offering will reportedly come with multitouch finally enabled, which is news set to excite all BlackBerry fans out there.

Screenshots of BlackBerry OS 6.0 were leaked by the news-nosy Boy Genius Report, revealing a completely redesigned home screen that provides one-touch access to various apps.

The new multitouch capability will be implemented system-wide, so you can pinch-to-zoom on websites and in applications.

Kinetic scrolling with rubberbanding will further provide a fluid iPhone-esque experience when scrolling through your range of phone options.

RIM has made some tweaks to the web browser as well, allowing users to open multiple tabs though there’s no word on how many you can keep open at the one time.

BlackBerrys are best known for their email capabilities, and there are improvements in this area as well, with “things look(ing) a bit cleaner, and a bit more modern” as reported.

Larger message thumbnails have also been incorporated to the left of each message to identify the message source such as Facebook or Twitter.

BlackBerry OS 6.0 further comes with modal popups and gestures. This means you can tap and hold the screen after you’ve just written an email, for a popup box to appear to provide next step options (send, save etc.).

This may not sound like a huge deal, but definitely makes the phone more user-friendly when you’re trying to reply to your boss from the train with one hand holding onto a rail.

Finally BlackBerry has pumped up its media player, letting you scroll through album artwork with the swipe of your finger.

It looks like BlackBerry has finally brought its OS into the 21st century, and we’re loving its incorporated image engagement, so you can actually have a bit of fun when replying to a 900 word email.

OS 6.0 is due to hit the market in June / July this year, with RIM expected to make an official announcement at next week’s BlackBerry WES symposium in Orlando, Florida.
