Last week, I visited the Ben Sherman showroom in NYC with DrJays.com buyer Jade.
We sifted through an array of flannel and woven plaid shirts, classic polos, polished outerwear and more.
Launched in 1963 by Ben Sherman himself, the brand first focused solely on men’s button-down shirts.
In the 1970s, Ben Sherman’s shirts gained popularity among the thriving British punk-music scene, followed by the Ska movement of the 1980s, which saw musicians and fans alike incorporating Ben Sherman shirts into their wardrobes. In the 1990s, Brit pop exploded and the brand was seen on the backs of heavy hitters like Oasis and Blur. Throughout the years, the brand has remained true to its preppy British swag.
Ben Sherman launched kidswear in 2001, and womenswear in 2002. Since then, the brand has partnered with Team Great Britain as an official sponsor of the Olympic Squad, and launched its first U.S. stores in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
