iPhone 4G Prototype Accidentally Found in Bar: Is it the Real Thing or a Fake?

As the rumoured release date for the iPhone 4G is set for this summer, the news just keeps on hotting up with us guys in the tech world to find out information revealing details on Apple’s next generation iPhone.

Just when we thought the Apple iPhone 4G news was dying down a little, it would appear that over the weekend, the guys over at Gizmodo have revealed that they have managed to get hold of an actual prototype iPhone, which was accidentally found in a bar in Redwood City.

Since this incident, Gizmodo have been examining this supposed iPhone 4G prototype exhaustively to reveal that there is just not enough evidence to prove it is the real thing. The reason for Gizmodo’s scepticism was that the supposed prototype iPhone 4G does not show up in the iTunes, Xcode and System Profiler and it has different product identifiers to that of the iPhone 3G and 3GS.  However, could this be that this phone is a prototype and it is still in its development stage and that’s why we are seeing differences?

However, interestingly the phone does seem to be a lot thinner than the iPhone 3GS and has a large battery inside the phone, which is something we have suggested could be rumoured for the iPhone 4G on many previous occasions. Things which also back up our previous rumours is that the phone has a front facing camera, a better camera and uses the same new MicroSIM slot as the iPad.

It was revealed that when the phone was found it was actually running on the iPhone OS 4.0 but it was remotely killed off, which does make you wonder that after the leaked news Apple have played a part in switching this off.

So could we be actually looking at pictures of the next generation iPhone? I would be inclined to say yes, especially as a large majority of features do a point towards what we are expecting the iPhone 4G to include when it is rumoured to release in the summer. As well as this, more news came in from Gizmodo in the form of published a letter from Apple’s Senior Vice President, Bruce Sewell, asking them to return the phone which actually belonged to Apple. Woops!

So do you still think this iPhone 4G prototype is a fake? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…
