I’m Just Saying: What Does “Vogue Black” Really Mean?

In the midst of Black History Month Vogue Italia launched three e-zine’s (if you will) which were designed to focus on three specific elements of fashion: black fashion, curvy fashion, and upcoming fashion, respectively titled Vogue Black, Vogue Curvy and Vogue Talents. Vogue Black is where the problem starts:

The launch has left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of many. On one end, Vogue Black celebrates black beauty and finally gives an outlet to those who have for a very long time been under represented. On the other end, it’s segregation, and a reason to continue to leave black models out of the pages and covers of Vogue. Me personally, I’m not feeling it. I think it’s anachronistic and sideways racism. This isn’t a step forward but a step backwards, and I have not come to accept it. I won’t even visit the site.

But what do you think? Is Vogue Black making strides towards including blacks in fashion? Does it needs to be respected? Or is this a step four decades back to segregation? SPEAK ON IT!
