Janet Jackson Will Headline Essence Music Festival Lineup 2010

Janet Jackson will join Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige as a co-headliner at the 2010 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans this summer.

The “Nasty” singer will make her festival debut as the third and final headliner at the annual festival — dubbed as a weekend-long celebration of music, culture, and community — this Fourth of July weekend (July 2, 3, and 4) in the Big Easy.

“This year’s Essence Music Festival line-up is headed up by three of the most talented and powerful women in music today,” Michelle Ebanks, president, Essence Communications Inc., said in a statement Tuesday. “With the return of both Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys, and the first-ever performance from Janet Jackson, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Essence’s 40th anniversary.”

In 1985, Essence became the first magazine to feature the future Grammy winner on the cover.
