Lenovo ThinkPads will get Sprint’s 4G Support

With the details announced of the HTC EVO 4G, the first ever 4G phone to be launching hopefully this summer by Sprint, it would appear that Lenovo are also looking to get a piece of the 4G action and are working on a deal with Sprint for their ThinkPads.

Currently Lenovo ThinkPads are available with 3G support in the US, but the company is now looking to add another 3G option and more interestingly the 4G option using Sprint’s WiMAX support.

Lenovo recently introduced the 4G enabled ThinkPad Edge laptop built for small businesses, however the 4G option will now be available across Lenovo’s entire line of ThinkPads.

Also similar to other mobile broadband options Lenovo makes connecting to Sprint 3G and 4G simple. The laptop comes with a SIM card already installed. Lenovo’s Access Connection tool helps users connect to the wireless network and is the only tool available from a PC maker that can manage both 3G and 4G network connections.

It is will be not too long before other major laptop makers such as Acer, HP and Dell make progression to 4G shortly, as Qualcomm today announced that its latest Gobi Modem chipsets would support LTE (Long Term Evolution), a competing 4G technology favoured by US wireless carriers AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
