ORISUE launched in 2005, when founder Michael Huynh committed to one of his longtime dreams: uniting hip hop, skateboarding and art into an apparel line.
According to the brand’s official website:
“A piece of paper is plain and dimensionless. By carefully following a series of precise folds, that piece of paper transforms into a three-dimensional work of art and craftsmanship. The finished product reveals itself as more than just art, but as a physical manifestation of the creator’s self-expression and individuality. Once known as ORISUE, this craft is now commonly known as origami.”
With the help of his longtime friend and entrepreneur, Allen Doan, the then 20-year-old Michael launched ORISUE’S first collection in spring 2006. consisting of a dozen T-shirts and two crew sweaters.
The brand has expanded into a full streetwear collection of denim, cut-and-sew, knits and more. Celebrities like Nas have jumped on board, while hip-hop newcomers Fashawn and Yelawolf are the newest faces featured in ORISUE’s spring/summer 2010 campaign.
