The editors of a German gossip magazine have issued a public apology and retraction to R&B superstar Beyonce after the publication published a faux story about the singer and her marriage to rapper Jay-Z.
The Neon Magazine article, published this week, featured details about an alleged marriage contract and prenuptial agreement between the music stars. The interview claimed that Beyonce and Hov signed a secret marriage contract to stay wed for two years, fueling online rumors that the couple — who married in 2008 — would soon split. The publication has since retracted the piece and the journalist who penned it has been fired.
“We do have serious doubts in the truth of many statements of the interview of Ms. Beyonce Knowles published in Neon, Issue January/2010.The article was written by freelancer Ingo Mocek,” an apology statement from Neon’s editors Michael Ebert and Timm Klotzek reads. “The editors-in-chief have confronted Ingo Mocek with these doubts. Ingo Mocek was not able to verify certain statements, particularly the statements regarding a marriage contract of Ms. Knowles. Therefore, we assume that the interview did not take place as claimed by Ingo Mocek.”
The statement continues: “Neon dissociates itself from the content of the interview with Ms. Knowles. Neon subscribes to a high level standard of truthful journalism. Since Ingo Mocek has violated these standards severely, Neon has terminated all relationships with Ingo Mocek with immediate effect. We sincerely apologize to Ms. Knowles and her management for all personal inconvenience that may have arisen due to the publication of this interview.”
