Google TV: Google Team Up with Sony and Intel to Create Apple-Like TV?

It would appear that the big shots in internet, chip and home entertainment manufacturing are teaming up together to develop an Android-powered internet platform using Atom processors for televisions and set top boxes.

Code named Google TV, The New York Times has revealed that Google, Intel and Sony are pitching in together to create this platform, which will make web application navigation (e.g Twitter, Picasa) as quickly as changing a channel.

Now it is all speculation at the moment with Intel and Google declining to comment as well as Sony spokesman saying he was unfamiliar with the project. However it has been reported that, Intel for example have listed jobs for senior application engineers with Android programming experience who can help extend Intel’s technology “from PC screen to mobile screen and TV screen”

Unlike a similar concept developed by Apple with their Apple TV, which allows Mac and PC users to download, stream and view High Definition television shows on demand via iTunes, it is hoped that Google TV will be open source at its core, meaning that device and TV makers should have broad access to it.
